Proverbs Chapter 6 16- 19

There are six things the LORD hates,
seven that are detestable to him:
a proud look,
a lying tongue,
hands that shed innocent blood,
a heart that devises wicked schemes,
feet that be swift in running to mischief,
a false witness who pours out lies,
and a man that sows discord among brethren.

Proverbs Chapter 6 6-15

Go to the ant, you sluggard;
consider her ways and be wise.
Which having no guide, overseer or ruler,
provides her meat in the summer,
and gathers her food in the harvest.
How long will you sleep, O sluggard?
When will you arise from your sleep?
A little sleep,  little slumber,
a little folding of the hands to sleep;
so shall a little poverty come upon you
like a bandit
and want like an armed man.
A naughty person,
a wicked man,
who walks with a corrupt mouth.
He winks with his eyes,
he signals with his feet,
he motions with his fingers.
Corruption is in his heart,
he devises mischief continually;
he sows discord.
Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly;
suddenly shall he be broken without remedy.

Proverbs Chapter 6 1- 5

My son, if you have out up security for your neighbour,
if you have struck hands in pledge for another,
if you have been trapped by what you have said,
ensnared by the words of your mouth,
then do this, my son, and deliver yourself,
since you have fallen into your neighbour's hands:
Go and humble yourself
press your plea with your neighbour!
Allow no sleep to your eyes,
nor slumber to your eyelids.
Deliver yourself as a roe from the hands of a hunter,
as a bird from the hand of the fowler.

Proverbs Chapter 5 15-23

Drink water from your own cistern,
running water from your own well.
Should your springs overflow in the streets
your streams of water in the public squares?
Let them be yours alone,
never to be shared with strangers.
May your fountain be blessed:
and rejoice with the wife of your youth.
A loving doe,
a graceful deer-
let her breasts satisfy you at all times;
and be you ravished always with her love.
Why be captivated, my son,
with an adulteress
and embrace the bosom of another man's wife?
For the ways of man are before the LORD,
and he examines all his goings.
The evil ways of a man ensnare him,
and he shall be held by the cords of his sins.
He shall die without instruction;
and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.

Proverbs Chapter 5 1-14

My son, attend to my wisdom,
and bow your ear to my understanding;
that you may maintain discretion,
and your lips may keep knowledge.
For the lips of an adulteress drip honey,
and her mouth is smoother than oil;
but in the end she is bitter as wormwood,
sharp as a two-edged sword.
Her feet go down to death;
her steps take hold on hell.
She gives no thought to the way of life;
her paths are crooked but she knows it not.
Hear me now therefore, O you children,
and depart not from the words of my mouth.
Remove your way far from her,
and come not near the door of her house,
lest you give your best strength to others,
and your years unto the cruel:
Lest strangers be filled with your wealth;
and your labours be in the house of a stranger;
And you mourn at the last,
when your flesh and body are consumed.
You will say  "How I hated instruction,
and my heart despised reproof;
I would not obey my teachers
or listen to my instructors!
I have come to the brink of utter ruin
in the midst of the whole assembly."

Proverbs Chapter 4 20-27

My son, attend to my words;
incline your ear to my sayings.
Let them not depart from your eyes;
keep them in the midst of your heart.
For they are life to those who find them,
and health to all their flesh.
Above all else, guard your heart,
for out of it are the issues of life.
Put away perversity from your mouth;
keep corrupt talk far from your lips.
Let your eyes look straight ahead,
fix your gaze directly before you.
Ponder the path of your feet,
and let all your ways be established.
Turn not to the right hand nor to the left;
remove your foot from evil.

Proverbs Chapter 4 10-19

Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings,
and the years of your life will be many.
I have taught you in the way of wisdom;
I have led you in right paths.
when you go, your steps will not be hampered;
and when you run, you shall not stumble.
Take fast hold of instruction;
do not let her go;
keep her; for she is your life.
Enter not into the path of the wicked,
and go not in the way of wicked men.
Avoid it, do not pass by it,
turn from it, and pass away.
For they  cannot sleep until they do evil,
and their sleep is taken away,
unless they cause someone to fall.
For they eat the bread of wickedness,
and drink the wine of violence.
But the path of the just is like the first gleam of dawn,
shining ever brighter till the full light of day.
But the way of the wicked is like deep darkness;
they do not know what makes them stumble.

Proverbs Chapter 4 1-9

Hear, you children, the instruction of a father,
and pay attention to gain understanding.
For I give good advice,
do not forsake my teaching.
For I was my father's son,
tender and an only child of my mother.
He taught me also, and said to me,
"Let your heart retain my words:
keep my commandments, and live.'
Get wisdom, get understanding:
forget it not;
neither swerve from the words of my mouth.
Forsake her not,
and she shall preserve you;
love her and she shall keep you.
Wisdom is the principal thing;
therefore get wisdom:
and with all your getting get understanding.
Exalt her, and she shall watch over you;
she will bring you honour when you embrace her.
She shall give to your head an ornament of grace:
and present you with a crown of splendour."

Proverbs Chapter 3 27-35

Do not withhold good from those who deserve it,
when it is in your power to act.
Do not say to your neighbour,
"Come back later, I will give it to you tomorrow" -
when you now have it with you.
Do not plot harm against your neighbour,
who lives trustfully with you.
Do not accuse a man for no reason
if he has done no harm to you.
Do not envy the oppressor,
and choose none of his ways,
for the LORD detests a perverse man,
but takes the upright into his confidence.
The curse of the LORD is on the house of the wicked:
but he blesses the habitation of the just.
Surely he scorns the scorners;
but he gives grace to the lowly.
The wise shall inherit glory;
but fools he holds up to shame.

Proverbs Chapter 3 13- 26

Happy is the man who finds wisdom,
and the man that gets understanding.
For it is more profitable than silver,
and yields better returns than gold.
She is more precious than rubies;
nothing you desire can compare with her.
Long life is in her right hand;
and in her left hand riches and honour.
Her ways are ways of pleasantness,
and all her paths are peace.
She is a tree of life to them that embrace her;
and happy is every one that retains her.
The LORD by wisdom has founded the earth;
by understanding has he established the heavens.
By his knowledge the depths are broken up,
and the clouds drop down the dew.
My son, let not them depart from your eyes;
keep sound wisdom and discretion;
So shall they be life unto your soul,
and grace to your neck.
Then shall you walk in your way safely,
and your foot shall not stumble.
When you lie down,
you shall not be afraid,
yes, you shall lie down,
and your sleep shall be sweet.
Be not afraid of sudden disaster,
neither of the desolation of the wicked,
when it comes.
For the LORD shall be your confidence,
and shall keep your foot from being snared.

Proverbs Chapter 3 1-12

My son, do not forget my teaching,
but let your heart keep my commandments:
For length of days,
and long life,
and peace,
shall they add to you.
Let not mercy and truth forsake you,
bind them about your neck;
write them upon the table of your heart:
So shall you find favour and good understanding
in the sight of God and man.
Trust in the LORD with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he shall direct your paths.
Be not wise in your own eyes:
fear the LORD , and depart from evil.
It shall be health to your navel,
and marrow to your bones.
Honour the LORD with your wealth,
with the firstfruits of all your crops;
then your barns will be filled with plenty,
and your presses shall burst out with new wine.
My son, despise not the LORD's discipline;
neither be weary of his correction:
For the LORD disciplines those he loves,
even as a father the son in whom he delights.

Proverbs Chapter 2 12-22

Wisdom will save you from the ways of wicked men,
from men whose words are perverse,
who leave the straight paths
to walk in dark ways,
who delight in doing wrong
and rejoice in the perverseness of evil,
whose paths are crooked
and who are devious in their ways.
It will save you from the adulteress,
from the wayward wife and her seductive words,
who has left the partner of her youth
and ignored the covenant she made before God.
For her house leads down to death
and her paths to the spirits of the dead.
None who go to her return
or attain the paths of life.
That you may walk in the ways of good men,
and keep the paths of the righteous.
For the upright shall dwell in the land,
and the perfect shall remain in it.
But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth,
and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it.

proverbs Chapter 2 1-11

My son, if you will receive my words,
and hide my commands within you,
so that you incline your ear to wisdom,
and apply your heart to understanding;
Yes, if you cry after knowledge,
and lift up your voice for understanding;
if you seek her as silver,
and search for her as for hidden treasure;
Then shall you understand the fear of the LORD,
and find the knowledge of God.
For the LORD gives wisdom:
out of his mouth comes knowledge and understanding.
He lays up sound wisdom for the righteous:
he is a shield to them that walk uprightly.
He keeps the paths of judgement,
and preserves the way of his saints.
Then will you understand
righteousness, and judgement, and equity;
yes, every good path.
For wisdom will enter your heart,
and knowledge is pleasant to your soul;
discretion will preserve you,
understanding shall keep you.

Proverbs Chapter 1 20-33

Wisdom cries outside;
she cries aloud in the streets:
at the head of the noisy streets she cries out,
in the openings of the gates:
in the city she utters her words, saying,
How long you simple ones,
will you love simplicity?
and the scorners delight in their scorning,
and fools hate knowledge?
Turn at my reproof:
behold,
I will pour out my spirit unto you,
I will make known my words unto you.
Because I have called and you refused;
I have stretched out my hand,
and no man heeded;
But you have set at nought all my counsel,
and would none of my reproof:
I also will laugh at your calamity;
I will mock when your fear comes;
When your fear comes as desolation,
and your destruction comes as a whirlwind;
when distress and anguish come upon you.
Then shall they call upon me,
but I will not answer;
they shall seek me early,
but they shall not find me:
For that they hated knowledge,
and they did not choose the fear of the LORD;
They would none of my counsel:
they despised all my reproof.
Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way,
and be filled with their own devices.
For the waywardness of the simple shall slay them,
and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.
But whoever listens to me shall dwell safely,
and shall be at ease from the fear of evil.

Proverbs Chapter 1 7-19

Listen, my son, to your father's instruction
and forsake not the teaching of your mother.
They will be a garland to grace your head
and a chain to adorn your neck.
My son, if sinners entice you,
do not give into them.
If they say, "Come along with us;
let us lay wait for blood,
let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause;
Let us swallow them up alive as the grave;
and whole as those that go down into the pit;
We shall find all precious things
and fill our houses with plunder;
throw your lot in with us,
let us all share a common purse" -
my son, do not go along with them,
refrain your foot from their path:
For their feet run to evil,
they are swift to shed blood.
How useless to spread a net in full view of all the birds!
These men lie in wait for their own blood;
they waylay only themselves!
Such is the end of all who go after ill-gotten gain.

Proverbs Chapter 1 1-7

The proverbs of Solomon son of David, King of Israel:
for attaining wisdom and discipline;
for acquiring a disciplined and prudent life,
doing what is right and just and fair;
for giving subtilty to the simple,
knowledge and discretion to the young-
let the wise listen and add to their learning,
let the discerning get guidance-
for understanding proverbs and parables,
the words of the wise and their dark sayings.
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge,
but fools despise wisdom and discipline.
